You’ve heard it before…
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! It gives us energy to start the day out with some gusto, and it keeps our minds off of our stomach as we progress through the morning. In fact, breakfast is so important, that there is an entire month dedicated to it! Today we celebrate National Breakfast Month with 7 awesome ketogenic (keto) recipes!
Our Version of a Healthy Breakfast
Traditionally, National Breakfast month is supposed to encourage a healthy breakfast. The breakfasts featured on most websites tend to be more akin to something a cow would grub on. I’ve scoured the internet for some truly awesome, HEALTHY, breakfast ideas, and have come to one conclusion… “Where’s the beef?”
Sometimes you have to buck tradition. Sometimes, as men, we need to stand up and tell the establishment to go pineapple itself!
So, in true manly style, we’ll be featuring some fantastically awesome, truly manly, breakfasts that are not only forkin’ delicious, but truly healthy!
But wait! There’s a gotcha here… In order for these breakfasts to be healthy, you’ll need to learn to eat differently. Don’t worry though. It’s an awesome change, and you’re gonna love it!
Repeat after me, “Fat is Good”! For some proof, check out this article about Sweden’s new dietary guidelines.
But, Isn’t Fat Bad?
For decades, people have been telling us that fat is the enemy. They’ve pushed a low fat, high carbohydrate, diet, and diabetes and other horrible diet related disease have plagued us.
I say, “Enough is enough!” It’s time to re-educate! Let me introduce you to the Ketogenic Diet.
The Ketogenic Diet or Keto lifestyle
Put simply, the Ketogenic Diet or “keto” as many of us affectionately call it, is a diet (or lifestyle) that changes the way your body processes food. In simple terms, your body usually processes carbohydrates like bread, sugar, and potatoes into glycogens. These glycogens are a type of sugar, and your body burns these glycogens as fuel, directly. If there’s an excess of glycogen, your body stores it as fat.
When you start a ketogenic diet, you change the way your body processes food. Instead, your body takes the fuel you put into it and converts it to fat, and from fat the liver makes ketones. Your body then burns these ketones as it’s fuel source! The best part? If there are excess ketones, you simply pee them out!
Keto a bit simpler
Wait, so what did I just read there? Glad you asked! To simplify it further, the keto diet burns fat from both your food and body as fuel! A regular, high carbohydrate diet primarily only stores fat, when there is excess food. On a normal high carb diet, your body only burns fat if it’s starving, and only does so as a LAST RESORT.
The challenge is that maintaining ketosis – the state of burning ketones, can be a bit tricky. This lifestyle also doesn’t give you free license to overeat. What it does do, is the following:
- Reduce your appetite, which allows you to eat less!
- Gives you bucket-loads of energy
- Clears and calms the mind
- Suppresses type 2 diabetes
- Cleans the skin
- Reduces fat (If a there is a calorie deficit)
- Lowers triglycerides
- Increases levels of HDL (the “good”) Cholesterol
- Reduces blood sugar and insulin levels
- Reduces hypertension (Your blood pressure goes down)
- It’s the most effective treatment known against metabolic syndrome
- It’s therapeutic for several brain disorders
- And more!
So, the keto lifestyle is required to make these delicious breakfasts healthy. If you’re not doing the keto lifestyle, these meals could be detrimental and too calorie laden.
Where can I find out more about Keto?
Believe it or not, keto is FREE! Say what!? Yes gentleman! It’s completely free and it totally works! In fact, the graph above shows my progress so far on the diet! Those are Kilograms, not pounds! This isn’t some sham, nor am I making any kind of money by selling you some kind of diet fad.
The only thing stopping you from getting the body of a God is you!
Without Further Adieu, Let’s Bring on the Breakfast!
Below are some wonderful keto breakfasts that I’ve seen and tried from around the internet. These breakfasts are all truly forkin’ delicious!
The Low Carb Big Breakfast – Ditch The Carbs
Ditch the Carbs has a plethora of wonderful low carb recipes that are perfect for keto. One of their wonderful articles even covers 23 easy-to-cook recipes!
A fully loaded breakfast is part of our weekend life at my house. I traditionally cook breakfast for my family every weekend, and they absolutely love a fully loaded breakfast! With all of this delicious goodness, what else can you expect?
For my family, I tend to fix homemade country sausage, fried eggs, bacon, and some fried tomatoes. It’s a great bonding experience, and my wife gets to take a break.
Ham & Cheese Low Carb Breakfast Casserole – I Breathe I’m Hungry
If you’re feeling a bit adventurous and want to wow your friends or family, then the Low Carb Breakfast Casserole may be your go to recipe. However, getting your hands on some celery root could be difficult.
You can also make the casserole without the crust, but I think the crust adds an extra dimension of flavor and texture to the dish.
Keto Coconut Porridge
Sometimes, we want to just curl up with a nice bowl of hot gruel… Wait, GRUEL? Sorry – hot cereal! Personally, my favorite has always been cream of wheat! I could totally eat the shiitake out of that shizzle!
This coconut porridge is pretty delicious stuff! But it’s not for those who happen to hate coconut. Lucky for me, I love the stuff! On a cold morning, this hot porridge will really help warm the bones, and warm your heart! Enjoy it with a couple of black berries on top for some “ultimate yummy”!
Zucchini Bread with Walnut Crust
As a kid, one of my favorite breakfast treats was a freshly baked loaf of Zucchini bread! Throw a pad of some real butter on a slice of this stuff, and add some keto friendly coffee to it, and you’ll be chewing your way to bliss!
On the plus side, if you have fussy eaters in your midst, most will devour a loaf of this stuff in record time!
Keto Donuts are here!
How many times have you gone to the office and had to suffer through watching your co-workers scarf up copious amounts of pastries or donuts? Want to get even? How about keto donuts?
Watch your co-workers curse you for your magic metabolism as you eat these beauties and melt off fat too! For a bit of extra fun, wave a pen over the donut before you eat it, and exclaim, “Fat-em melt-um-ous!” You may just have people believing that you’re a real wizard!
Low Carb Keto Pancakes
Admittedly, I haven’t tried this one yet. It looks delicious though! If you’re looking for a stack of flapjacks, this may be your answer!
Throw on a mound of butter and some sugar free maple syrup, and you’ve got your wish! For those who try this recipe, please let me know how it tastes!
For a pancake master tip, don’t use oil in your pan! Instead, use a good non-stick pan.
Keto Berry Mug Cake
Want cake for breakfast? Yes, you can! This keto berry muffin mug cake is a simple, microwave style cake that tastes excellent! For breakfast, it’s extra yummy with a drizzle of full cream on top!
This was so good that I plan on using it as a base for a birthday cake for my birthday in October!
My favorite… Steak N’ Eggs!
To me, nothing says MAN like eating a nice, juicy, cut of beef! Admittedly, my dream breakfast would consist of a huge cut of prime rib with Au Jus and eggs, and a side of garlic buttered asparagus!
How about a recipe? Well, this one only has one hard element in cooking, and that is the steak. For cooking steak at breakfast time, I suggest Pan Searing. Below is a good link on how to pan sear a steak.
Pro Tip – if you’re going to pan sear a steak, I suggest using a well seasoned, cast iron skillet! That’s the best!
